"Morii" is meant to create a place of solace and rest. As you sit down, a feeling of comfort and safety surrounds you, with the leaves that envelope you, and the branches that support you.
It is a chair designed with the concept of existing in nature, without any human assembly. The bent lamination chair was not created for a specific entity to use, but is made to create a cocooning, safe space for someone to rest in. The leaves are wrapping around the user, along with the branches surrounding and supporting the chair.
Materials include maple veneer and walnut veneer.
Traditional Japanese carpentry was developed without the use of nails, screws, or glue, and the absence of iron support. "Shoji" was built as close to this principle as possible.
There are zero nails, screws, or metal fasteners in this build. The only glue used was to join two boards together for width to create the back panel. Everything on this cabinet can be disassembled, from the mortise and tenon top, to the tusk tenon legs, to the sliding dovetail cabinet, down to the dowel handles and half lap door details.
Materials include cherry, walnut, and rice paper.
Classically built, nylon string guitar.
Beyond building an instrument for this first time, I decided to challenge myself with the finish. Traditionally, classical nylon string guitars are French polished, so I chose this over an epoxy or lacquer finish. No rottenstone or pumice was used, and zero shellac was sprayed onto the body; The French polish is 100% hand rubbed. Because of all the shellac in the finish, my guitar was named "Shelly!"
Materials include spruce, cedar, Indian rosewood, and ebony.
